Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC)
…is a method of cold therapy involving 3-4 minutes of skin exposure to temperatures between -200 to -250 F.
In the late 1970’s Japan was using Whole Body Cryotherapy to treat rheumatic diseases. Studies conducted over the last 20 years have established cryotherapy as a powerful treatment for reducing symptoms of pain and inflammation with many chronic conditions.
Below is a video of the Monolith Team at US Cryotherapy Scottsdale, where they got their freeze on. Take a look.
The benefits of Cryotherapy:
Performance – Minor trauma to the muscles occurs during training by both professional and recreational athletes. Exertion on the muscles, in turn, breaks small percentages of the fibers, this is the cause of the muscle becoming stronger. Proper recovery helps the body regrow the damaged fibers and adds new fibers to prepare for future stress. WBC decreases the pro-inflammatory tissue chemicals to lower temperatures than other methods such as ice or ice baths. The quick reduction in inflammation allows for a quicker turnaround and less rest time. Less rest time means greater training frequency and more intense training.
Pain Management – WBC reduces the circulating levels of inflammatory chemicals. It improves circulation of nutrient-rich blood to tendons, ligaments, and muscles. Due to the increase in blood flow tissues build and become stronger, as a result, helps prevent injury.
Metabolism – WBC chills the body and increases the basal metabolic rate. You can burn an extra 500-800 calories from a single WBC session. For weeks after a single session, you can burn up to 300 extra calories a day.
Over All Health – WBC can improve joint disorders because of its anti-inflammatory properties. Athletes who use WBC are quicker to recover from injury which in turn will improve performance.
Here is a list of immune system benefits:
-improves immune, nervous, vascular and lymphatic systems
-detoxifies the blood and internal organs
-activates anti-aging properties
-decreases stress levels
-helps with sleep disorders and depression.
